Prelim: Magazine Fonts Moodboard
I have
created a moodboard based on different fonts in order to attract my viewer. Although
fonts in general may seem as a small compartment on a fashion magazine it is something
vital as it creates an image. It allows the viewer to see what kind of image
the magazine wants to present and how that can help them in choosing if they
would like to read it or not.
All of
these magazines use their fonts in order to tell their audience what their
magazine is about and the type of reader that they expect to have. For example,
with Glamour magazine they use san-serif font allowing their audience to feel
as if it’s more of casual magazine leading to how they are to do with not only beauty
but lifestyle. The colour pink conveys how it is targeted at a majority of
females due to how the colour scheme is seen to be more feminine using colours
such as pink. This allows the reader to see just by the font what they are trying
to imply without telling them directly so that they are able to see it for
themselves. Elle magazine and vogue on the other hand use serif font in black
as a use of colour majority going towards their heading and cover lines in
previous publishing’s to presents them as being successful. This also shows
that they are so established and therefore don’t even need colour in order to
draw in their viewers. Others know about their popularity and are hence able to
buy the magazine just by seeing the title. The spacing between letters in addition
agrees to Vogue and Elle’s house style presenting a sense of sophistication
being that they are high end brands and use spacing to make them stand out
amongst their other aspects of the cover. As the title is the most important
thing on a fashion magazine front cover as it allow and audience to identify
who they are, the companies being able to not only make themselves bold but attractive draw in
others that might not particularly know their brand as a result being able to
see how elite they really are.
To conclude,
analysing font magazines was able to tell me about how much they are fundamental
to a magazine front cover and context page due to how it sets the first initial
tone for the magazine making the crucial decision for the public to see if they
would want to buy it or not.
